Building on the development priorities set out in Ethiopia’s poverty reduction programme and consistent with its commitment to strengthen synergies with the programmes of its key partners, SNV Ethiopia is working in two impact areas:
- Access to Basic Services with a focus on water, sanitation and hygiene and renewable energy (biogas).
- Increase in Production, Income and Employment with a focus on four agricultural value chains: milk and milk products, honey and beeswax, oil seeds (sesame, niger, safflower) and horticulture (apple, mango and pineapple); and increasingly also tourism.
In both impact areas SNV looks at governance issues, including the aspects of gender and social inclusion of less empowered citizen groups.
- We aim for capacity development of local organisations and empowerment of people within and linked to these organisations. We do this through the supply of advisory services, knowledge brokering, advocacy on specific development issues and support to the development of local capacity builders.
- In all our activities we promote good governance.
- We work with three teams of advisers with specific technical expertise pertaining to WASH, biogas and the four value chains, and with governance expertise in general.
- We establish close links with key partners focusing on the same sectors, thereby enlarging our joint impact (business-to-business).
