SNV Nepal Extended Management Team 

 

Rem Neefjes, Country Director

Rem joined SNV in Nepal as Country Director in September 2011. He served as Country Director in SNV Ethiopia since 2006 and has worked with SNV since 1993 in a variety of different advisory and management positions in Zimbabwe, Uganda and Kenya.

He has been working in development for more than 25 years, mainly in Africa, in the fields of economic planning, rural economic development, organisational and institutional support, change management, value chain development and good governance.

In SNV East and Southern Africa (ESA), Rem held the position of Head Agriculture - Economic Development, since April 2009. In this capacity he led the team in developing the SNV ESA VCD approach and in implementing more coherent VCD programmes in the agriculture sector. From 2006 to 2009, Rem was Head Governance for Empowerment (GfE), in which position he was responsible for the integration of governance (including gender) and maintaining an empowerment focus in all SNV programme activities.

Rem has a Master’s degree in Macro-Economics, with a specialisation in Development Economics and International Economic Relations from the University of Amsterdam and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Economics.

Keshab Joshi, Programme Coordinator
Keshab joined SNV in November 2004 and has 20 years experience in international development, project management, participatory planning and monitoring and decentralisation and governance.  More specifically, Keshab worked for the Government of Nepal in farming systems research and development, generating income and employment opportunities for the poor through Save the Children, USA, and project/programme management and technical/advisory services at GIZ.
 
Keshab obtained his Masters degree in Science with a specialisation in Agricultural Systems from AIT Bangkok. Keshab believes that advisory services can bring tangible changes in the living conditions of the poor people through improving service delivery mechanisms of clients only if advisors have deep contextual knowledge of local situation, strategic visioning, analytical competency and high level commitment/dedication towards fulfilling the responsibilities.

Surendra Raj Joshi, Programme Coordinator

Surendra joined SNV in April 2011 and has more than sixteen years of experience in the fields of livelihoods improvement, value chain development, sector assessment, quality assurance in honey supply chain and natural resource management. 
 
Prior to joining SNV, he worked with SNV in Bhutan, MEDEP/Nepal, ADB/Bhutan, EC/Bangladesh and ICIMOD. Prior to this, he worked with GIZ/Nepal in the field of local and regional economic development and sub-sector promotion. He also worked with ICIMOD for about 10 years and held action research roles for improving livelihoods and biodiversity conservation, mainly through the promotion of indigenous honeybees and other high value products.

Surendra holds a PhD in Applied Natural Sciences from University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria and MSc in Botany from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. He has published numerous research papers and study reports focusing on agricultural value chains, livelihoods, honey quality and beekeeping in different journals.

Suresh Koirala, Finance Officer

Suresh has been working for SNV since December 1994.  As Finance Officer, Suresh has the overall reposibility of analysing and ensuring all established financial and administrative procedures are in place and properly adhered to.
 
Suresh began his career in the banking sector in addition to gaining experience as account officer at the Agriculture Development Bank for three years.  His areas of expertise include handling large and complex projects in the areas of finance, HR, logistics and procurement.  Suresh obtained his MBA in Industrial Management and Finance from the Tribhuvan University in Nepal.
 
 
Shalav Risal, Country Human Resource Officer
Shalav joined SNV Nepal in June 2008.  As Human Resource Officer for SNV, Shalav supports over 70 staff members in all human resource related functions including Organisational Development, Human Resource Development, Health and Safety, Compensation and Benefits, and Recruitment and Selection.
 
Prior to joining SNV Nepal, Shalav was the Coordinator for Human Resource Management Consulting team at Bikalp, where primary assignments typically involved strategic HR interventions including HR strategy and policy development, restructuring, salary revision, performance management system development, HR audits, climate surveys and customised HR interventions.  His recruitment/headhunting assignments over the years include over 500 placements in leading FMCGs, Banks as well as development sector organisations. Shalav holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from the Kathmandu Vishwavidalaya University in Nepal and a B.Comm (Honours) from the Delhi University, India.

Monisha Rajbhandari, Agricultural and Forest Products Regional Network Leader

Monisha joined SNV Nepal in June 2007 as a value chain development advisor and is currently the AFP Regional Network Leader.  Prior to joining SNV, Monisha was a Business Development Specialist at the Pacific Business Centre Programme at the University of Hawaii and has worked as a freelance consultant in Nepal, engaged in work with IUCN, WWF and Tara Management.
 
Monisha obtained her MBA from the University of Hawaii and a graduate certificate in the Asia Pacific Leadership Program from the East West Center, Hawaii.

Henk Veerdig, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Sector Leader

Henk has over 30 years professional experience in the WASH sector.  In fact, he began his WASH career in Nepal as a volunteer for SNV back in 1978.  After living and working in Nepal for 9 years (with both SNV and UNICEF), Henk moved on to work for Femmes de homes Netherlands in Jakarta, Indonesia as Regional Representative of South East Asia. In 1993 he became the Country Director of Save the Children (UK) in Lao PDR before moving back to the Netherlands in 2001. During his time in the Netherlands, Henk furthered his academic studies in quality management, occupational health and environmental issues.  Prior to joining SNV Nepal Henk was senior adviser of occupational health and environmental care for Artis Zoo.

Henk has a Bsc. in Civil Engineering from MTS, an MA in Rural Social Development from the University of Reading, and most recently obtained his ‘KAM coordinator’ degree from the Transfer Group Rotterdam.
