SNV is based in Guinea-Bissau since 1979. During the 33+ years, SNV evolved from a donor approach to a strategy that focuses exclusively in the development of local capacities. In 2011, we intervened in Tourism, Agriculture and Basic Education and created a new program on Water, Hygiene and Sanitation. With a team of 11 advisors, and by using local service providers, SNV works with 15 local organisations in the regions of Bafatá, Biombo, Cacheu and Gabu.
We recently established a partnership with the EU, while renewing long lasting successful partnerships with Plan International, CREPA, UNICEF, FUNDEI and a number of key public institutions and civil society organisations in Guinea-Bissau. We are active in strategic debates and events, such as the food security challenge, the cashew campaign, the forthcoming decentralization process and the Sanitation and Education MDG challenges. Embedded in the large family of SNV in West and East Africa, SNV Guinea-Bissau benefits also from the experiences gathered in 18 sub-Saharan countries.
To develop the market of capacity development services in Guinea Bissau, SNV relies on its advisors experience and expertise who implement on the ground the working solutions. To perform better, we are constantly exploring ways to find out and upscale solutions that work. We focus on acquiring knowledge through research, evaluation and on the field learning.
