Financials

A substantial part of SNV’s work is financed by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The annual contribution from the Ministry – EUR 96.5 million in 2008 – allows SNV to implement its core work programme.

In the coming years (up to 2015) the close relations with the Ministry, including the Netherlands Embassies in the countries where we work, will be continued. The Ministry and SNV have decided to stimulate complementarity. They have agreed that at least 50 percent of SNV’s resources will be invested in mutually agreed sectors and themes in partner countries.

The emphasis on direct advisory days by our own international and national staff will gradually shift to local capacity builders and the establishment of local capacity building funds. These funds will provide funding for capacity development support to local actors, tailored to their issues and needs.

Apart from forming partnerships and exchanging knowledge, SNV actively collaborates in third party funding arrangements, financed by other donor organisations. It is a strategic priority to broaden our income base in the coming years. Fundraising from non-governmental sources is becoming more important, although it should be seen as supplementing the Netherlands’ government contribution, not substituting it.
