Pigs for energy (video)

Friday, April 24, 2009 10:14 AM

Vietnam - Over the last two decades, the pig production sector in Vietnam has been booming.

Between 1990 and 2003, the swine population has doubled. And according to the Vietnamese Ministry of agriculture, the number of pigs will keep on growing: from 27 million in 2005 to 33 million by 2010. But with this economic prosperity, major problems come attached. Many farmers do not know what to do with the manure, and simply wash it down the gutter, bringing on disease and pollution.

However, pig manure can also provide a tremendous source of energy.
