Our initiatives in the Agriculture sector include:

Cotton/Food Security

In the Cotton/Food Security area, SNV works through the Building Program Producer organizations (ROCOTON) and also in promoting the values of food chains from the perspective of food security. These activities cover four (4) departments (Atacora / Donga, Borgou / Alibori, Zou / hills and Mono-Couffo) and 10 municipalities (Banikoara, Kandi, Kalalé, Sinendé, Cobly, Djougou Kouande, Dassa, Djidja Aplahoué).

Pastoral Livestock

Services rendered:

  • Support for land management / facilitation of access to pastoral resources ranchers (grazing and water)
  • Support for professional organisations
  • Support for management of livestock markets
  • Support for the processing of milk into cheese Fulani and marketing of cheese
  • Advocacy / lobbying for the creation of an enabling environment for development of the subsector
  • Coaching in cross-border routes

Benin-LCDF

The Local Capacity Development Facility in Republic of Benin (Benin-LCDF) is a non-profit association governed by the law of 1 July 1901. Under the initiative of the SNV, it was created in November 2011 by some fifty national structures (NGOs, technical services of the state office of education) known for their involvement in strengthening the capacity of actors in agriculture throughout the national territory. It is a platform to secure the service market development capabilities. This will give confidence to the NGOs to professionalise the various links in the value chain of agriculture.

AgriHub

Agri-Hub Benin is a network of professionals and organisations who are engaged to promote farmers’ entrepreneurship in Benin. The Agri-Hub Benin was initiated by the Dutch network Agri-ProFocus in collaboration with the Netherlands Embassy in 2011. SNV assures coordination of the network in Benin.

Agri-Hub’ aim is to promote farmers’ entrepreneurship through effective collaboration between all actors (local & foreign) who are active in the agriculture sector in Benin: producers’ organisations, agro-businesses, banks, knowledge institutions, NGOs and consultancies, but also government and donors. Its covers the whole country and funding is assured by the Dutch members.

  • Action research on specific trajectories
  • Announces, analysis and debates through Agri-Hub Benin’s web-site & organization of expert meetings, conferences & business to business events
  • Place to create alliances for joint resource mobilisation

Cashew

Improve governance in the value chain through :

  • Provide support to producers organisation and the partnership with other actors of the chain; and entrepreneurial attitude of producers organisations
  • A better processing/transforming of products in order to increase value and diversification of processed products
  • Improved quantity and quality of the production
  • Access to relevant information on prices and markets
