Access to energy sources is a precondition for development and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. SNV’s work in renewable energy focuses on lighting and cooking needs for households, and productive needs for small and medium enterprises. Interventions in the renewable energy sector include facilitating commercially sustainable market systems for domestic biogas through the Africa Biogas Partnership Programme, clean cook stoves, biomass energy solutions and solar products and services. Our work in domestic biogas is built on our worldwide recognition and hands-on-experience in eighteen biogas programmes in Africa and Asia.
SNV Burkina works on three main projects : Biogas, Solar Thermal Paraboles/Reflectors, Biomass gasification of cashew nuts.
SNV does not install the technologies but works with partners who do. Our organisation builds capacities of partners and those who will be operating the equipment, and, if possible, of engineers who could potentially install such technologies in the future. SNV also looks at other aspects such as feasibility studies, credit access etc.
