Pro-Poor Sustainable Tourism 

Our clients are:

The Ministry of Tourism (MOT) is a government agency designated with the overall responsibility to oversee the planning and management of tourism activity in Cambodia.
SNV’s involvement:

  • support to the MOT in developing institutional and policy framework such as ecotourism policy, strategy and action plans;
  • support to the MOT to coordinate and implement the recommendations of the National Ecotourism Policy and Strategy, including the Mekong Discovery Trail Project;
  • support to the institutional development through capacity building of provincial level development committees and MOT in close collaboration with private sector and local capacity building organisations.

CCBEN – Cambodia Community-Based Ecotourism Network is a network of conservation organisations, travel agencies, educational institutions and communities in Cambodia. CCBEN’s role is to promote and support community-based ecotourism in Cambodia.
SNV’s involvement:

  • support to developing a marketing strategy for CCBEN;
  • assistance in setting up quality standards for Community-Based Tourism and ecotourism products;
  • providing technical support to the development of capacity building of provincial level tourism development authorities in sustainable tourism in collaboration with AECID (Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development)  and FPSC (Fundacion Promocion Social de la Cultura);
  • providing technical support to train and organise CCBEN to reach the level of trust and competitive product providers necessary to enter the international business community in collaboration with EU-Asia Invest;
  • supporting CCBEN to take up the middle man’s position and acting between the tour operators and the NGOs involved in tourism;
  • supporting CCBEN to become stronger capacity strengthening service providers;
  • providing support to meso-level concepts and approaches (value chain analysis and development, multi-stakeholder approaches, involvement of private sector in product development and marketing); and
  • providing support at policy development level such as capacity strengthening support in hospitality.

Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP)
SNV's involvement:

  • supporting RUPP in developing short-term training programs for the private sector;
  • support to RUPP to in becoming a stronger service provider;
  • providing support to meso-level concepts and approaches (value chain analysis and development, multi-stakeholder approaches, involvement of private sector in product development and marketing);
  • providing support at policy development level such as capacity strengthening support in hospitality; and
  • support to RUPP and its department of tourism to make contacts with other universities to strengthen their exchange programs and support the knowledge development of teachers.
