Waste to Energy for the Rice Milling Sector
Since the Cambodian rice milling sector do not have enough capacity to purchase and dry wet paddy, farmers sell wet paddy to traders in Vietnam and Thailand at a lower price. This coupled with high electricity/fuel prices, and limited access to modern technologies, paddy is either exported unprocessed or processed through diesel powered engines resulting into high processing cost.
Therefore, to create a rice milling sector that is both competitive and environmentally responsible, the project will promote the switch from conventional (expensive, fossil fuel generated) energy to renewable WtE applications through upgraded rice husks gasification systems and reduce the processing cost for millers.
