Water Sanitation and Hygiene

Objective

The overall goal of the Cameroon WASH programme is to increase the number of people in Cameroon having access to adequate quantities and qualities of potable water, sustainable sanitation, and proper hygiene facilities and practices of which 52% of them are women. The target is 828,000 people have access to potable water (52% women) and 990,000 people have good sanitation and hygiene facilities (52% women). To achieve this objective, we focus on two main areas:

Water supply

We work to improve water coverage and water functionality through:

  • Promotion of water governance in water management structures and councils
  • Improvement of water infrastructure functionality through proper operation and maintenance systems
  • Support Council on project management
  • Stimulation of water multi stakeholders dialogue and collaboration
  • Promotion of public-private partnership
  • Support council in internal and external resources mobilisation and allocation
  • Support public and social accountability in water sector

Sanitation and Hygiene

We work to promote sustainable sanitation for all and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in schools trough:

  • Use of participatory techniques such as Community-Led Total Sanitation to end open defecation and create demand for toilets;
  • Raise awareness on good hygiene practices;
  • Promotion of public-private partnership
  • Reinforcement of latrine builders capacities
  • Training and monitoring of teachers and Parents and Teachers Associations (PTAs)
  • Support collaboration between Non State Actors (NSA) and Local Authorities (LA)
  • Support council in internal and external resources mobilisation and allocation

Extreme-north, North-west, West, South and South-west.
