The Democratic Republic of Congo, a vast Central African country, covers an area of 2,345,409 sq. km (Third largest country in Africa) and shares borders with nine countries: Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. The DRC is a semi- locked country with less than 100 km of coastline on the Atlantic.
Located astride the equator, the DRC has an equatorial climate, hot and humid in the center, and tropical in the South and North. Its vegetation is established for half with forest. The other half, near the tropics is dominated by savannas. Rainfall is abundant alternately between North and South (800-1800 mm). The rainy season lasts about eight months in the year against an average of four months of dry season. The hydrographic situation of the DRC is dominated by the Congo Basin, this 4,670 km long river with a flow of 30,000 m3 per second at the mouth (second largest flow of the world). It is necessary to mention the existence of fifteen lakes totaling over 180,000 sq.km.
