SNV works in partnership with WFP for implementing in DR Congo-Bikoro Territory in Equateur Province, a Purchase for Progress (P4P) programme with as principal objective the increase of income of smallholder farmers through the development of the food market. SNV has agreed to corporate with WFP as a partner in the framework of the programme by engaging and realizing the following activities: identification of trades in Mbandaka and Kinshasa and promotion of marketing activities through the mobilization of potential buyers, realisation of a baseline survey with traders, in consultation with WFP, promotion of saving and credit system, creation of a network market information (price, stocks, movement of traders) sharing network through focal point and broadcasting, creation of a consultative framework between unions of farmers organisations and traders, notably for price negotiation and set up, sensitisation on legal taxes and support to advocacy against "annoyances" and organisation of trading fairs, in technical consultation with FAO.
The Congo Basin Forest Fund is a multi-donor set up to take early action to protect forest in the Congo Basin region. The fund is supervised by a board of Directors and managed by a secretary based at the African Development Bank. SNV is working in a consortium agreement with Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) as Fund Management Agent (FMA) for the Congo Basin Forest Fund under a service contract with the African Development Bank (ADB). The Consortium provide full administrative and financial responsibility to CBFF and ADB and in respect of funds that are transferred by the Bank for projects of small and management. For sustainable development and mpowerment of local people, SNV works with local and national NGOs and with public and private institutions. medium sizes. The impact of our advisory services on access to drinking water and sanitation has been strongly improved with the partnership we started in 2010 with UNICEF on ‘Village et Ecoles Assainis programme’. In this partnership as SNV, we have the responsibility to support the capacity development process of the programme’s local implementing partners. This capacity strengthening has direct effects on the number of villages and schools certified as ‘safe’ (A village is certified as ‘safe’ when: 80% of its population has access to potable water, 80% use hygienic latrines, 60% wash hands before eating and after latrines, 70% know how hygiene-related diseases are transmitted).
European Union (project GCP/RAF/408/EC); SNV supported many small business operators in NTFP value chains. SNV helped them to better organise themselves, to improve their business skills and access to market information through a self-managed market information system. This support was done within the framework of an EU-funded project implemented in partnership with FAO and CIFOR. This program came to an end in December 2010 and its evaluation has demonstrated clear impact on income for poor forest people.
