About SNV

SNV is an international not-for-profit development organisation. We believe that no-one should have to live in poverty and that all people should have the opportunity to pursue their own sustainable development.

Starting out in the Netherlands more than 40 years ago, we now work in over 30 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Our global team of over 900 advisors use their specialist expertise in Agriculture, Renewable Energy and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene to contribute to solving some of the leading problems facing the world today.

SNV aims to make a lasting difference in the lives of 40 million people living in poverty over the period 2011-2015.

El Salvador

El Salvador is the smallest country geographically in Central America, but has the third largest economy. SNV's efforts in El Salvador began in 2008 with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB-MIF) project on Inclusive Business, and we maintain a small workstation in the country.

Our initiatives in El Salvador include:

  • The IDB-MIF project on Inclusive Business, working with JJ Borja Nathan on biodiesel production from small-scale farming
  • Scenario Buildingfor future Central American economic development
  • Private Sector Mapping of firms interested in linking to majority markets
  • Market study on biodiesel
  • Publication of Toward a Biodiesel Market in El Salvador
  • Exploration of Inclusive Business opportunities with diverse firms focusing on the agriculture and energy sectors
