About SNV

SNV is an international not-for-profit development organisation. We believe that no-one should have to live in poverty and that all people should have the opportunity to pursue their own sustainable development.

Starting out in the Netherlands nearly 50 years ago, we now work in 39 countries in AfricaAsia, and Latin America.

Our global team of advisors use their specialist expertise in Agriculture, Renewable Energy and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene to contribute to solving some of the leading problems facing the world today.

In Guatemala, the most populous country in Central America, SNV has engaged in efforts to promote sustainable development as part of larger regional initiatives.

SNV´s work in Guatemala includes:

  • Central American Scenario Building, which brought together government, private sector, and civil society stakeholders to visualize and document possible economic development paths for the region
  • Private Sector Mapping to identify firms that have or are interesting in connecting to majority markets
  • Strengthening of the Regional Farmers Association, which included El Salvador and Honduras
  • Publication of the Best Practices Guide to Community-Based Tourism, in collaboration with Rainforest Alliance
  • Explorations with firms interested in Inclusive Business
  • Feasibility study for a renewable energy and agribusiness development fund.
