Reforms have been undertaken in the Kenyan education sector to address the overall goals of the National Economic Recovery Strategy and international development commitments, including MDGs and Education for All. The first major initiative of these reforms was the launch and implementation of the Free Primary Education policy in 2003. The education sector abounds with diverse actors at all levels, from national to local. The Ministry of Education is the main player with a principal role of coordination and provision of overall policy guidance and direction in the sector. SNV Kenya complements government’s efforts in the implementation and realisation of the objectives of the Kenya Education Sector Support Programme.
SNV is working to:
-
Improve equitable access and retention to quality education in primary school for both boys and girls,
-
Enhance quality of learning achievements
SNV’s interventions pay special attention to girls, marginalised and vulnerable groups.
