The crisis in Water and Sanitation is a crisis for the poor. Across Kenya, the poorest people not only fail to get access to potable water, but they also pay some of the world’s highest prices for water. It is on this background that SNV Kenya has identified Water and Sanitation as one of the key basic services sectors around which to orient its advisory services.
This strategic choice is guided by impact targets emanating from the MDG-based National Water Services Strategy. SNV’s contribution to impact is guided by the targets of the Water Services Boards and water service providers with whom we engage. SNV Kenya works with water, sanitation and hygiene service providers and support programmes in providing sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
In its work in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector, SNV aims to contribute to:
-
Pro-poor access and accountable service provision
-
Sustainability and service efficiency
-
Behaviour change in relation to sanitation and hygiene
-
Sustained water resource base
