Tuesday, March 23, 2010 10:57 AM
On 23rd March 2010, the Mozambican Institute for the Promotion of Exports (IPEX) and SNV signed a three year MoU where SNV will assist IPEX in developing various export value chains, specifically in lifting the various supply constraints related to the identified export opportunities. Other critical project partners, the Centre for Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries who will assist IPEX in identifying and developing the market opportunities and mapping the market access requirements in Europe and the Dutch Embassy, who is providing  €1.2 million funding to IPEX.

The Mozambican Institute for the Promotion of Exports (IPEX), a business support organisation aims to increase and diversify exports from Mozambique. As there is currently a limited proven capacity of exports of non-traditional or value-added products from Mozambique to both the European Union and the SADC region, a project was developed to enhance both IPEX export facilitation capacity as well as to facilitate the development of sustainable export value chains through seven pilot projects, notably green beans, cashew nuts, peanuts, mango, pineapple, piri piri and handicrafts.

IPEX has dedicated a team leader, per pilot project, who will coordinate the conventionalising and development of each pilot project. SNV will provide capacity development services to the projects.

The programme will contribute towards building and integrating stakeholders in the export promotion strategies to take advantage of economic opportunities in more favourable terms. The pilot projects have links to poverty reduction projects since they will target assistance for upgrading skills and knowledge and increase production of quality products.
