SNV began its operations in Nepal in 1980.  Over the years, SNV Nepal has been able to expand its reach, acquire in-depth technical knowledge, and deepen our understanding of Nepal's cultural and social underpinnings.

We work to realise sustainable, locally owned and relevant impacts in two areas:

  • Improving the access, coverage and quality of basic services
  • Increasing the production, income and employment opportunities for the poor

Facts and Figures 

• Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and ranks as the second poorest country in Asia.
• Its per capita annual income is $383. Annual economic growth rate is 2.8%, whilst annual inflation rate is 6.7%.
• SNV operates in all five sectors in Nepal through its country office in Kathmandu and three sub-offices in the West, the East and the Central Terai regions.
• Through SNV’s work in Renewable Energy over 200,000 biogas plants have been installed across the country.  In addition, 5,000 Improved Water Mills (IWM) have been established.
• SNV’s collaborative forestry management  is currently benefiting 183,000 individuals in the Terai.
