Renewable Energy: With SNV’s capacity building services over 200,000 biogas plants and 5,000 improved water mills (IWM) have been installed throughout Nepal.  In addition, SNV is exploring innovative and alternative renewable energy sources such as bio fuel production.
Smallholder Cash Crops: SNV has assisted the Nepali orthodox tea industry to adopt a Code of Conduct (CoC) – a set of standards for quality production that also promotes social and environmental responsibility. The CoC has been recently branded “All Fair Nepal Tea’ and by the end of 2008, five tea factories have adopted the CoC in tea production and processing, leading smallholder farmers implementing CoC practices to receive a price premium of 20%.  In addition, SNV enhanced the value chain of cardamom for efficient processing (increasing productivity and enabling environmentally practices with innovative drying systems) in order to increase the Nepal’s international market share for cardamom.
Forest Products: SNV assisted in the formulation of a comprehensive forest sector plan and substantially strengthened District Forest Coordination Committees in order to improve forest governance and ensure that the rights and benefits are equally shared.  In addition, SNV successfully enhanced the value chains of non-timber forest products, namely seabuckthorn, Kurilo and lemon grass.  Increased productivity and prices of these products is positively impacting the livelihoods of local farmers and producers.
Pro-poor Sustainable Tourism: SNV successfully completed the Marketing Assistance for Sustainable Tourism Products (MAST-Nepal) pilot project which sought to mainstream pro-poor sustainable tourism and substantially contribute to economic development that is both equitable and sustainable.  As a result, SNV is up-scaling the idea for a nation wide programme entitled “Responsible Travel Nepal” to stimulate economic growth and poverty reduction in Nepal through sustainable growth in the tourism sector. The specific objective is to improve the supply of sustainable tourism services by Nepalese SME's and to increase the awareness and demand of international tour operators and consumers in using these services.
Water, Sanitation & Hygiene: The WASH team recently introduced the Community Led Total Sanitation approach to the Far-West region of Nepal.  Through advisory services to District Development Committees, two districts have successfully declared themselves ‘No Open Defecation’ zones.  SNV plans to upscale its initiatives to a further 14 settlements in five other districts.
