Tanzania
SNV Tanzania works in two impact areas:
- Improving Access to and Quality of Basic Services with a focus on Water, Sanitation & Hygiene, on primary Education and Renewable Energy (mainly Biogas)
- Increasing Production, Income and Employment with focus on value chain development in Oilseeds, Livestock and Pro-poor Tourism.
In both impact areas SNV Tanzania looks at Governance for Empowerment addressing gender, social inclusion and HIV/Aids as crosscutting issues.

Facts and Figures
- Population of 39.5 million living mostly in rural areas
- The country is predominantly arid and semi-arid
- Tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country
- Agriculture is dominated by smallholder farmers
- Tanzania is the tenth biggest exporter of sesame seed on the world market, with major exports going to France, South Africa, Poland, Iran and Turkey.
- Tanzania’s livestock population ranks third in Africa after Ethiopia and Sudan but accounts for only 4% of the GDP
