How do we work?

In line with the Uganda Poverty Eradication Action Plan and the Millennium Development Goals, SNV Uganda works under two broad impact areas in its efforts to fight poverty in the country:

1.      Effective, Efficient and Increased Access to and Delivery of Basic Services  focusing on Education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and Bio gas.
2.      Sustainable and Equitable Production, Income and Employment for the Poor focusing on oilseed (including sunflower, sesame, shea nut and groundnuts), non-timber forest products (including bee products) and horticulture (specifically pineapples and mangoes).

SNV Uganda pays particular attention to gender equity and the social inclusion of marginalised groups in its efforts to promote governance for empowerment. SNV in Uganda is made up of four portfolio teams, all focusing on Basic Services and Production, Incomes and Employment. These four portfolios, geographically located include:

  • Central Portfolio serving one district of Kitgum in Northern Uganda and five districts; Rakai, Masaka, Mpigi, Luwero and Kiboga in Central Uganda with a population of about 2,684,000. The portfolio is also responsible for building and maintaining relationships with national level partners and clients on behalf of the entire SNV Uganda programme.
  • North East Portfolio serves the districts of Moroto, Kapchorwa, Bukwo, Kumi, Soroti, Mbale and Sironko.
  • Rwenzori portfolio serves five districts of Kasese, Bundibugyo, Kabarole, Kyenjojo and Kamwenge with a population of close to two million. Kasese and Bundibugyo districts border the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
