Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

  • UNICEF and SNV have formed a partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and Housing on Rural water supply and Sanitation from 2008 to 2010 to support rural water supply and sanitation programmes in 10 districts In 2011, SNV held a knowledge sharing symposium for the National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Programme, under the auspices of the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, to share the lessons from the SNV-UNICEF WASH partnership.
  • Lumwana Mines provides financing to SNV to provide capacity development support to the Solwezi District Water Sanitation and Hygiene Committee. The committee facilitated the improvement of water, sanitation and hygiene services in Manyama, a growing informal settlement near Lumwana Mine. SNV has supported the committee to undertake a baseline study of the water and sanitation situation, community consultation, to introduce Community-Led Total Sanitation, and to plan and commission rehabilitation of dysfunctional water points, as well as to build community structures for service management. In addition, SNV is providing organization development services to a newly established Lumwana Mine-sponsored organization, The Lumwana Community Development Foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to promote the socio-economic development of the Lumwana Community largely with sponsorship from Lumwana Mine.
