SNV Renewable Energy Zimbabwe’s overall goal is to realise access to sustainable, clean and reliable energy sources for domestic households and small and medium enterprises, including small producers, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Energy developments have largely focused on large-scale infrastructure and urban populations, while the rural and peri-urban population has received little attention and support. SNV, however, believes that the poor should also have an opportunity to leapfrog energy poverty and hence market-based programmes are currently being explored in partnership with Hivos and through multi-stakeholder forums in the area of solar PV and heating, biogas, energy efficiency and energy funds to substantially reduce energy poverty.
