The Banana Value Chain Development Programme initiated by SNV in Honde and Risutu valleys of Manicaland Province has proven that development can indeed be a people driven process. In 2009 SNV together with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture initiated the idea of including “the child” in this project through a customised curriculum which allows pupils to leave school not only with numeracy and literacy but also vocational skills. The aim was to foster good banana growing practises to pupils and help these pupils acquire basic conservation and business marketing skills.

With the deteriorating Water and sanitation coverage in Zimbabwe over the last decade as well as the sustainability glitches in government and donor interventions as they try to rectify the WASH problems, SNV in partnership with ACF has a new project funded by the European Union already in full swing to charter the way forward in addressing the rising need for demand and supply driven approaches to WASH. SNV is playing an important role to increase access to clean and safe drinking water and sanitation by stimulating demand from below and making products readily available to the community.

The School Development Programme Promises Efficiency In Schools

SNV in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture (MoESAC) with funding support from UNICEF has set a new programme in motion; the School Development Plan Programme (SDP).This programme is a follow up programme, riding on the success of the SDC Capacity Building Programme implemented between 2009 and 2012 and a pilot project involving 100 primary and secondary schools. The SDP programme seeks to strengthen capacities of schools nationwide and help these schools to become effective in planning schooling activities.

SNV-Zimbabwe welcomed delegates from the Ford Foundation on Tuesday 12th March 2013 for a three day visit. Ford foundation, one of SNV’s key funding partners in Agriculture visited the country to have an opportunity to see evidence of SNV’s inclusive business projects, get a first-hand picture of SNV’s programmes and appreciate the context in Zimbabwe. Mr Frank De Giovanni, (Director for Financial Assets), and Paulo Nimpuno-Parente, (Program Officer Economic Opportunity and Assets) were representing the Foundation. This was the second time Paulo was visiting the country programmes.
