Mali security update

Following the March 21 coup against President Amadou Toumani Toure's government, widespread looting and opportunistic crime has led to a breakdown in the security situation in Mali's capital city of Bamako and the rebel-held regions of Gao, Kidal and Timbuktu in the country’s north.

Due to this tense situation, the SNV office in Gao is temporary closed and SNV cattle sector programmes are temporarily suspended (affecting the lives of thousands of smallholders). SNV has ensured the safe evacuation of its employees and their families from Gao to Bamako. Programmes outside Gao are still operational.

SNV is currently planning further evacuations of the families of its international staff from Bamako to neighbouring countries (Niger, Côte d'Ivoire) as soon as possible.

Further updates will be posted on this website.
