How to become a strategic partner

In order to achieve greater leverage and synergy, SNV will further develop its existing partnerships. Diversification of our corporate partnerships and our resource base is an important goal in the 2007-2015 strategy.

SNV’s position is unique in combining local presence and international outreach with an advisory capacity development role. Our attraction as a strategic partner extends to a range of private and public actors, national and local governments, corporate organisations, foundations and associations. However, we plan to move with caution here: the partners that we are looking for should match our values, vision and the scale of our operations. In 2008 we aim to establish two more strategic partnerships.

We consider a partnership as a strategic relationship between SNV and other actors that are committed to work collaboratively to achieve development impact by a balanced pooling of resources and sharing risks and responsibilities. Whilst SNV's contributions to a partnership can be in cash, in-kind contributions (e.g. in the form of advisory days) are often preferred. Such contributions are likely to facilitate the integration of the partnership in our primary process.

SNV aims to have in all regions key (specialised) expertise partners in each specific positioning choice on basic services and value chains.

To connect, not to delineate

“Partnership and resource mobilisation are more than add-ons. They are essential strategic relations to achieve the Millennium Development Goals in 2015. To work on partnership and resource mobilisation is to work from the outside-in. It is to connect, not to delineate. It is to create opportunities, not define turf. It is to be an innovating entrepreneur as well as a manager and administrator. In short it is about advancing and increasing opportunities for impact and sustainability.”
Robert de Jongh, SNV’s Regional Director Latin America
