ProMali Programme (2009-2013)

Thursday, October 29, 2009 4:41 PM

Pro Mali program is a jointly funded activity between the Danish Neighbourhood Programme and SNV the Netherland Development Organisation in Albania

The Neighbourhood Programme is Denmark's bilateral development programme for EU’s neighbouring countries to the east and southeast. The overall objective of the Neighbourhood Programme is to promote open and democratic societies founded on the rule of law and based on a stable political and economic development. The Neighbourhood Programme contributes to avoiding the creation of new dividing lines in Europe between the EU and its neighbours.

The present commitment of the neighbourhood program to Pro Mali is approximately four million euros over four years.

SNV as the implementing partner has also committed over one million euros to Pro Mali and will use its fifteen years of experience in Albania to develop and implement activities to the benefit of the target group.

As the Pro Mali programme’s name implies, it will work to the benefit of mountainous areas in Albania but is limited to concentrating its efforts to certain agricultural sectors, namely:

·         small ruminants,

·         fruit trees and

·         herbs and spices

It is the mandate of the program to develop and implement strategies at all levels that allow the income and employment in the target areas to improve. This means improving:

·         access to markets,

·         access to modern inputs and technology

·         access to capital and skills.

The programme will work with all stakeholders in the defined sectors, such as government and the private sector in all areas of the country –not limited to mountainous areas – that are identified as important to the value chains in the various sectors. And as a priority, will use where possible Albanian service providers to help plan and implement activities.
