SNV and the Municipality of Berovo recently finished categorising private accommodation for tourism in the region. This results from the work of a commission made up of representatives of the municipal administration, private accommodation owners and the NGO sector, which compiled a list of standards according to the law for standardisation in tourism and following the best tourism practice and experience on private accommodation in EU countries.
SNV is now working with a group of private accommodation owners, who have formed a regional association, “Maleshevki Raj”, which will work to improve conditions on private accommodation in the area. The association has 30 members and is growing.
SNV agreed to assist the association in tourism development following the tourism standard on accommodation worldwide. As a first step, SNV and the Association of Private Accommodation Owners worked together to introduce for the first time online booking for private accommodation houses in Macedonia, and develop the website www.berovobooking.com.mk.
SNV is also continuing its support for the Tourist Info Points network established some moths ago. At a meeting on 3 December SNV presented a number of successful financially sustainable models of international Tourist Info Points as well as a version of the official web site of Tourist Info Points in Macedonia.
