Monday, June 22, 2009 1:00 PM

SNV Kenya and the Ministry of Education signed an agreement on 22nd June 2009 towards the implementation of Kenya Education Sector Support Programme. Through this agreement, SNV and the Ministry of Education aim to increase children’s access to primary education with greater emphasis on girls and other vulnerable children; and improve the quality of learning and subsequently transition from primary to secondary for all children.

The scope of the agreement includes establishing multi stakeholder platforms; strengthening the capacity of decentralised education structures, community based organisations and other relevant civil society organidations; strengthening the capacity for quality teaching and learning; strengthening the capacity of education management and information systems; and generation of knowledge and evidence to enhance learning and inform policy. The agreement will also work towards generating evidence on alternative basic education models that effectively serve the marginalised and vulnerable groups in the pastoralist context.

The agreement, effective for an initial period of two years starting June 2009, was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Prof. Karega Mutahi, and the Country Director for SNV Kenya, Mr. Stuart Worsley.
