Jennifer Willis, Country Director SNV Zambia, and UNICEF counterpart, Lotta Sylwander, celebrate signing of the partnership agreement.
On 1st July 2009, SNV Zambia signed a 40:60% cost sharing partnership with UNICEF worth $1,408,740. The water, sanitation and hygiene programme will run until the end of 2010 and covers 10 districts in the Copperbelt and Northwestern provinces. This partnership builds on the initial $298,085 phase 1 programme that commenced in April 2008.
The partnership will increase clean drinking water coverage from 209,834 to 246,263 people; sanitation coverage from 147,660 to 162,660 people; improve school sanitation from 7141 to 26 790 pupils; provide clean drinking water at schools, from 39,563 to 55,064 pupils; and improve school health and hygiene practices.
Within the context of the Zambia National Rural Water and Sanitation Programme, SNV capacity development services target local governments and civil society players, while implementation is being done through a local capacity builder.
