SNV facilitated a training course on biogas technology and mass dissemination from February 18 – 23, 2010 at the Ethiopian Management Institute Training Centre in Debre Zeit. The objective of the course was to share experiences on the development and implementation of large-scale domestic biogas programmes, with a focus on the role of SNV. The course covered biogas basics, technical issues, quality, finance, promotion and marketing. The African Biogas Programme Partnership sponsored the course.
The course was officially opened on by Ato Misganaw Asnakew, Manager of the National Biogas Programme Ethiopia. The course was conducted by Mr. Felix ter Heegde of SNV with support of SNV Ethiopia advisors, resource persons from the Institute for Sustainable Development and UNDP Ethiopia. They shared their knowledge in the areas of composting/slurry management and carbon trading. The course included field visits to biogas users around Debre Zeit town where more then 35 biogas plants are operational. Participants shared knowledge and experience during the course.
Thirty six participants from National Biogas Programme Ethiopia, Ethiopian Alternative Energy Development and Promotion Centre, Regional Mines and Energy Agencies, local organisations involved in capacity development, and partner organisations attended the training. The participants from the National Biogas Programme Ethiopia included the managers and the newly recruited staff of the coordination offices at national and regional level.
