SNV places all its work in two broad impact areas:
- Access to basic services (BASE)
- Income, production and employment (PIE)
Within the field of basic services, SNV concentrates on four sectors that are closely related to the Millennium Development Goals. Within this context, the Regional Offices make more specific positioning choices to focus their work and relate to national targets.
Within the field of income, production and employment, all regions identify competitive value chains for selected commodities, products and services that have developmental impact potential.
In the East and Southern Africa Region the following themes have been selected as positioning choices:
Education
Water and Sanitation
Renewable Energy (more specifically Biogas)
Agriculture (Livestock, Oil seeds, Horticulture)
Non-timber Forest Products
Pro-poor Tourism.
