Clinton Global Initiative

SNV has been a member of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) since 2010. CGI was established by President Bill Clinton in 2005 with the mission to inspire, connect, and empower a community of global leaders to forge solutions to the world's most pressing challenges. CGI helps its members - organizations from the private sector, public sector, and civil society - maximize their efforts to alleviate poverty, create a cleaner environment, and increase access to health care and education.

Rather than directly implementing projects, CGI facilitates cross-sector partnerships that, in turn, create and carry out projects of their own choosing. Commitments to Action, a unique feature of CGI membership, translate practical goals into meaningful and measurable results. Throughout the year and at the Annual Meeting, CGI acts as a marketplace for a diverse community of changemakers to develop commitments that fit their core business and philanthropic goals. As a member, SNV has actively participated in the CGI Annual Meetings with three Commitments to date as follows:

Impact Investing Advisory Services

SNV provides advisory services to help SMEs in the developing world reach investment readiness. Since our commitment to this sector announced at CGI in 2010, SNV has helped 14 agribusiness in East Africa to receive $10.1 million in investments. Read more...

Local Capacity Development Facilities

In 2010, SNV made a commitment to establish a number of LCDFs which are demand driven models for local development. LCDFs bring together local entrepreneurs to sell and procure skills and resources from one another. Through market facilitation services and financing opportunities, LCDFs enable local communities to pursue their own development priorities. Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves

SNV is a Founding Partner in the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, which is a public-private initiative, aimed at creating a sustainable global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions. As a commitment partner of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves announcement at CGI in 2010, SNV pledged its technical expertise in renewable energy to help the alliance meet its goal of deploying 100 million cookstoves by 2020.
