The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) funds various SNV programmes in the agriculture sector, with a focus on improving agricultural productivity and market access for smallholder producers in East and Southern Africa. These country-based programmes aim at improving market linkages and initiatives that ensure returns to smallholder producers. This is achieved by enhancing knowledge and understanding of market access, regional linkages and networking, and through policy dialogue and advocacy.
Some examples of IFAD-supported SNV programmes include: Strengthening Support for Capacity Enhanced Market Access and Knowledge Management in East and Southern Africa; The Rural Markets Promotion Program (PROMER) on market access for smallholder producers in Mozambique; the Oil Seed Support Programme project to improve household incomes and employment opportunities in Uganda; and the South Sudan Livelihood Development Project on community development.
