UNIDO and SNV have agreed to join forces in project and business development. A joint statement was signed by the UNIDO Director-General, Kandeh Yumkella and SNV Chief Executive, Allert van den Ham on 29 January at the end of the Empowering Progress in The Hague renewable energy event. Both UNIDO and SNV have a track record in private sector development and have identified an overlap in working sectors. The joint agreement aims to boost the cooperation in joint business development in particular.
UNIDO and SNV will start exploring cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Renewable Energy with a specific focus on increasing the position of small holder farmers. This focus is a direct follow-up of the high level meeting ‘Small Farmers, Big Business’ which was being organised by the same consortium at the European Development Days 2012 (Brussels, 16-17 October 2012). In the Renewable Energy sector UNIDO has shown interest in the SNV approach in medium scale (industrial) biogas, institutional cook stoves and gasification projects.
