Agriculture and energy use are major drivers of deforestation and forest degradation. The demand of agricultural products and local energy use correlates strongly with the introduction of solutions for sustainable forest use. Local communities depend on access to clean energy resources and the effective agricultural productivity and equal distribution of assets.
To tackle these challenges the SNV will launch a new programme, the ‘’REDD+ Energy and Agriculture Programme’’ (REAP), to improve livelihoods of local communities and to advance understanding of the link between agriculture and energy use across different forest landscapes, reduced emissions and forest protection.
The REAP Programme will be implemented by a team of 4 experts based in Africa and Asia and contains four key components:
to produce guidance and toolkits to assist governments, companies and donors to support REDD+ compatible agriculture and energy activities
to provide technical support and trainings for SNV staff on REDD+ and the agriculture and energy sectors
to test knowledge products in priority countries, with a view to refi ning and replicating
identifying key partners, in industry, governments and development assistance agencies, for close collaboration to embed results for impact at scale
