Our Work

Advisory services – Creating effective solutions with local impact

Advisory services are at the core of SNV’s work. SNV deploys a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team of over 100 advisors in the WASH sector. We engage in long-term working relations with public and private organisations working in WASH. We support their professional and organisational capacity development, provide advice on the use of innovative approaches in water and sanitation service provision, and jointly develop effective solutions.

Knowledge networking: Developing, sharing and leveraging knowledge

SNV’s long track record in the WASH sector, collaboration with over 300 organisations and long-term in-country presence have given us a thorough understanding of WASH issues. Through studies, analysis, effective M&E systems and practices and documentation we consciously leverage the use of knowledge in the development and application of contextualised solutions. Collaboration with private and public partners takes shape through national and international learning platforms and networks. We have established three interlinked regional WASH knowledge networks, two in Africa and one in Asia, involving partners from more than 20 countries.

Evidence-based advocacy – Enabling environments for effective solutions with local impact

SNV joins forces with governments, the private sector and civil society – for example water user associations – to enrich policy debate and development. Through offering facts, data and analysis based on real-life practices, we provide options and alternatives that match the interests of people living in poverty. For example, in Tanzania and Cameroon SNV introduced WASH sector budget tracking at district level. This strengthening of the local accountability mechanism has resulted in more transparent resource utilisation.
